Extruder: Improve Extrusion flow/drag properties to resolve plank bending, slot knitting.  Lead into an Investigate of extrusion and downstream process balancing for twin planks.
VBD Metal Detector: Review and improve existing system (Smaller through, greater clearances) or replace with alternative system.

This program digitizes RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) and CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance) analysis to optimise the design and sustainment of complex, mission / safety-critical systems.

Development of our software solution including but not limited to:

  1. Research and specification of defined analyses and processes for safety analysis based on international standards into defined functionality and workflows
  2. Specification of analysis outputs to industry standards to ensure compliance

A complete service for the provision of technical packaging solutions to defence. This includes design, manufacture, testing and project management. Items packaged can range from a small usb flash drive up to a complete aircraft engine. On site capabilities include welding and metal fabrication, rotational moulding, CNC routing, water jet cutting, plastic welding and painting amongst others.

Projects / tasks:

The intern will be involved in generating designs, prototyping and preparing design documentation for advanced technical packaging solutions in support of air, land and sea forces. The intern will have opportunity to own a project from receipt of the order until the delivery of the design and subsequent packaging solution to defence.

Technical skills:

Solidworks would be an advantage, however understanding a similar CAD system will be sufficient. A mechanical or materials engineering background would be beneficial.

We develop autonomous detection solutions for airborne search and surveillance applications with Defence and civil security organisations. Our core focus is software processing high resolution video in real-time but our solutions now extend to include design and specification of custom hardware to add cameras, processing and locational hardware to manned and unmanned aircraft.

Projects / tasks:

  1. Design of jigs to support the metallic processing of F-35 Joint Strike Fighter components. The project involves observing the manual metallic processing of manufactured parts, and designing and implementing workflow processes and equipment which accelerate the schedule but without compromising safety or quality. The project feeds into our existing F-35 JSF manufacturing and maintenance program.
  2. Design of Additive Material repairs for the F-35 JSF and MH60R Romeo. The project involves redesigning traditional repairs using AM technology. The project feeds into our existing F-35 JSF and MH-60R Romeo maintenance programs.

Technical skills:

The intern should have a mechanical, aerospace or materials engineering degree. A person who seeks to understand technologies, and to use that understanding to sustain current levels of engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing performance.

We develop and license software that enables Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to function in electronic devices including for defence applications.

Projects / tasks:

The aim of the proposed project is to real time formation control of multiple devices using wireless technologies. Example devices can be swarm of mobile robots or drones, smart lights, smart sensor networks. Using wireless stacks (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) and sensors (Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Atmospheric, Light etc), one possible way to achieve this is by designing a system with the following components and behaviors:

1. Localization capability with respect to landmarks, beacons etc.

2. Leader and follower formation communicating via BLE.

3. Use of formation patterns that are either pre-programmed on the leader or they can be fetched to the leader via smart phone app.

Technical skills:
